I haven’t kept up with any X-Men related comics in a few years. The storylines always seem never ending. X-Men comics are rarely written for the casual fans as I’m always feeling lost by just reading through a random issue. Now I see Rictor and Shatterstar, two characters that date back to the days of New Mutants, have come out of the closet. I’m shocked that Marvel even went this route. Northstar, a character from the superhero group Alpha Flight, was Marvel’s first openly gay character. But that character was never as popular as these X-Men related characters are. Peter David is the scribe on X-Force and he has always been among my favorite writers in comics. Looks like he is shaking things up in the comics world once again.
This animation short by Moo-hyun Jang is one of the best I’ve ever seen. This is great inspiration for me as a fellow animator. Definitely will check out more of his work. Hope you enjoy it.

This ridiculous deleted scene is from Terminator 3. Watching it you can see why it didn’t make the cut. In this scene, Arnold is a soldier that they based the Terminator models on. His accent sounds like a black man from the deep south. Watch the clip to find out how he ends up with the Austrian accent from the movies.
There’s so much to say about Michael Jackson passing away today. It was so unexpected. I first read of Michael being rushed to the hospital on twitter. At that point it was being tweeted like crazy that he was in cardiac arrest. Later it was TMZ that was the first news source to state that he had died. Michael meant so much to people currently around the ages of 30 years and older. We all remember him moonwalking for the first time at Motown 25 in 1983. Then the classic short film length videos that made MTV a staple for the youth. The Thriller video is probably my favorite video of all time. My younger brother used to cover his eyes and turn away at the final image of Michael in that video. Remember the Beta vs VHS war? My parents bought a Beta and also bought The Making Of Thriller for the player. I must have worn that tape out I watched it so much. We also remember the glove. The Thriller jacket. I can remember kids at school wearing various versions of that jacket. The numerous times Michael reinvinted himself. His videos became world premiere moments. All of these things are the reasons I feel many of us feel so crushed at his sudden passing. Michael MEANT something to us. He meant something to me as I was growing up and enjoying the world of entertainment, MTV, pop culture, and video games. As time passed, seemingly everything we heard about him was bizarre or freakish. His popularity decreased significantly. But his music and his impact on us will live forever. We should all celebrate what he meant to us by playing his music, watching his videos, and remembering those special moments he gave us all. RIP to the King Of Pop.
With Thursday night’s NBA Draft also comes a million and one trade rumors. Fun stuff for any NBA fan. There has already been one trade which should make the Spurs a title contender once again. They traded some scraps (Bruce Bowen and Kurt Thomas) to the Bucks for Richard Jefferson. The Spurs not only get younger but more athletic with Jefferson. The Bucks will probably cut Bowen and he’ll end up back with the Spurs at some point during the season. Poor Bucks fans. The Bucks were looking to cut salary in this deal. The Spurs also traded Fabricio Oberto to the Pistons for Amir Johnson, who was sent to the Bucks in the deal.
So many trade rumors swirling around. The Celtics seem to be keen on ridding themselves of young point guard, Rajon Rondo. Word is that his attitude has been a problem behind closed doors. The latest rumor is Rondo and Brian Scalabrine to the Grizzlies for Rudy Gay and Mike Conley. At least the Grizz would be getting back more talent than they did when they gave Pau Gasol to the Lakers.
The Cavs are still looking for a 3rd team to help them in a trade with the Suns for Shaq. I personally don’t think Shaq will make that much of a difference. The Cavs need young, athletic players. And some youth would go a long way to convince LeBron James to stay in Cleveland.
A number of teams are trying to trade up to grab Ricky Rubio from Spain in the draft. So Thursday night should be pretty entertaining with so many rumors going around. Stay tuned.
Every week I’ll try to suggest something for my readers to check out. Today it’s a comic called, Bayou.
I came across this comic by doing a search online for web comics. And I’m glad I did. Bayou takes place in the deep south, in a parallel world from our own. This strange land has Gods and monsters, old myths, and years of slavery. The story revolves around Lee, the daughter of a poor sharecropper. Her journey begins when her father is accused of killing a young white girl. She sets out to prove her father’s innocence. Along the way she comes across many strange monsters and animals that she never imagined existed. She befriends a blues singing, swamp monster named Bayou. As her journey grows, Lee finds that her world is far different than she once thought.
I really enjoy this comic. The artwork and story are both top notch. The site is updated every few days or so with new pages. I definitely recommend it if you want to read something far different from the norm.
I’m a huge fan of the reimagining Battlestar Galactica series. And with the series ending a few months ago, I’m definitely looking forward to this 2 hour movie, The Plan. It chronicles the entire series from the perspective of the Cylons. Though that seems a bit odd that 4 seasons worth of material will be crammed into 2 hours. I’ll be there to watch regardless.
This is great news for any baseball fan. I use the MLB app to check scores and watch highlights when I can’t watch the games live. I love the option to listen to any broadcast from any game whether it’s the home team or away team. But live video over wi-fi or 3G? I just hope it really works.
I liked the first few Kobe/LeBron puppet commercials. They next few weren’t as funny. Well, I really like this one with Kobe celebrating with a Finals win and stopping as soon as he sees LeBron. Nice touch. haha
